Who You’ll Work With

At Echoing Green, we have a front row seat to the brightest leaders with the most innovative ideas driving social progress across the world. We are fired up about our Fellows; we are their advocates and their biggest champions.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Programs, we are looking for a Senior Director, Capital to drive the strategic vision for our Fellow selection and capital disbursement processes, along with directing the year-round implementation of those processes.

What You’ll Do

As the Senior Director of Capital, you will oversee key workstreams that include:

New Fellow Selection Strategy & Oversight

Center a globally resonant definition of racial equity and a leader-forward definition of innovation in Fellow selection tools (e.g. applications, rubrics and scoring guidance) and assessment processes (e.g. diligence and slate review decision-making)
Design training materials and facilitate interactive sessions that support internal and external evaluators to: (1) root out evaluator bias; and (2) norm scores across a large range of evaluator perspectives
Lead strategic iteration of selection tools and processes through recurring post-cycle analysis of diverse stakeholder feedback (i.e. internal staff, funder partners, social innovation experts, board members, Fellow alums)
Streamline current selection tools and processes to ensure an increasingly efficient approach to identifying social changemakers on a global scale
Oversee the ongoing codification of each phase of the selection process, with clear documentation of both manual / high-touch and automatic / low-touch elements
Develop and maintain relationships across the social innovation sector and across the Echoing Green community to identify best practices for strategic iteration of selection tools and processes

Capital Disbursement Strategy & Oversight

Center trust-based practices (e.g. unrestricted funding, simplified reporting, participatory grantmaking) in capital disbursement for Fellows
Oversee proactive Fellow support that leverages ongoing outreach, relevant counsel, and timely resource-matching (i.e. fiscal sponsorship partners) for new Fellow stipends
Streamline current tools and processes to ensure an increasingly efficient approach to disbursing new Fellow stipends, making follow-on investment decisions for alums, monitoring fiscal sponsorships, managing recoverable grants, and distributing small grants
Design training materials and facilitate interactive sessions that drive a “for Fellows, by Fellows” approach to follow-on investment decisions for alumni Fellows
Oversee the ongoing codification of each disbursement process, with clear documentation of both manual / high-touch and automatic / low-touch elements
Lead strategic iteration of disbursement processes through recurring collection and analysis of staff and Fellow feedback
Develop and maintain relationships across the social innovation sector and across the Echoing Green community to inform strategic iteration of disbursement tools and processes to position Echoing Green as a leader in trust-based philanthropy

Departmental Leadership

Manage consultants, contractors, and internal departmental staff toward data-driven selection and capital disbursement goals
Supervise Programs staff responsible for cross-functional project management and implementation of the multi-phased new Fellow selection process and the multi-faceted disbursement strategy
Drive staff professional development and performance through ongoing, direct, positive and constructive feedback and coaching
Collaborate with cross-functional senior leaders to align development requests, communications support, executive leadership perspective, and operational feasibility of selection process and capital disbursement strategy
Manage departmental budget and budget planning process for new Fellow stipends, capital disbursements to alumni, travel expenses, consultant fees, and other selections-, disbursement-, and team culture-related costs

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

Global Racial Equity Leadership: Facility with discussing, leading discussions around, and managing teams dedicated to centering issues of racial equity on a global scale
Social Innovation Expertise: Lived experience leading an organization or department dedicated to systems change for social good
Strategic Thinking: A knack for drafting short-, medium-, and long-term proposals with accompanying contingency considerations for a changing talent, budget, and field landscape
Sharp Prioritization: Unyielding solution orientation to juggling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, global organization
Impact-Driven Decision-Making: Rigor around leveraging qualitative and quantitative data to drive systems design and impact
Influential Collaboration: Facility motivating and mobilizing individuals and teams, whether vertically through direct management or laterally through peer influence
Human-Centered Approach: Commitment to collaboration, laughter, and candor for oneself and others in the workplace
